The Start of a Collection?

Our dear friend Lisa Moseley brought over this antique egg scale the other day as a gift. I love the look of it and it makes me proud of our girls: They lay large to extra-large eggs!

Ginger's egg is pretty much XL!

My husband says “NO” to chicken-themed plates, egg cups, tablecloths, art, dishtowels and garden decor, but these old-style contraptions are very cool. Here are some other models I found while poking around on the Internet:

I won’t start a collection, Henry, I promise. But I will cherish the Jiffy-Way egg scale that Lisa gave us!

Oh, there is one chicken-related item that even Henry embraces: This cap, a gift from my sister Cece and her husband, Chris. They brought it back from a visit to Key West where hens and roosters roam free!

I wear this cap proudly!

About cdhla

I'm a former editor at several lifestyle magazines who's been freelancing since moving from NYC to LA. I call my blog The Chipped Platter to remind us that chips are better than perfection. The platter in question, a round one made by Gien, has traveled the world with me, visited with friends and family, celebrated milestones, and offered sustenance. My cherished Chipped Platter is part of the family. (I love my chipped plates, too!) On this blog, I'll be sharing my adventures of cooking for my family and friends, venturing out into restaurants and learning tips from people I meet. Come along!
